Beginners Course Sunday 5th September 2021
Our aim is to give people an intensive course so that you can start archery a lot quicker and become a club member sooner, if you so wish. On successful completion of the course you will be provide with a certificate to be able to join Blue Arrows immediately or take as evidence of basic course completion to other clubs. Details of Blue Arrows membership will become available at the breaks whilst on the course.
If you want to use the day as a taster or something different to try, then that is fine also. There is certainly no obligation to continue archery after the day if you felt it wasn't for you.
The cost of the day is £35 per person, no concessions or group discounts.
The use of all equipment and the necessary training is included.
You must be at least 7 years old to take part but no upper limit! Juniors under 13 will require parent/guardian supervision throughout the day. Parents/guardians will be required to sign the disclaimer for all those under 16.

All timings are approximate and we may tailor the day depending on conditions and attendees abilities.
Although it may seem like a long day, you will learn a lot. You will find the day will go quite quickly and I am sure you will find it very enjoyable.
At the end of the course you will have the opportunity to progress into archery through joining the club as a member immediately.
All details regarding this will be given at the end of the day.
The course will take place at Ipswich School Playing fields, see map below. This is an outdoor field with parking and toilets. Detailed instructions of how to find us can be viewed and printed here.
There is limited shelter at the venue for either good or not so good weather! Feel free to bring along chairs/picnic blankets lunchtime or spectators.
Lunch is NOT provided. You will need to bring your own lunch and drinks there aren’t any shops within walking distance. You will have time to drive out but advisable to come prepared.
What to wear
It is important that you dress appropriately using the following as a guideline:
- No open toed shoes/sandals are permitted for archery. Without closed toe shoes, you will not be able to shoot
- It is a grass field so if it’s been raining on the lead up to the day, it is likely to be wet underfoot and possibly muddy. Please wear appropriate footwear
- We would NOT recommend wearing loose fitting garments, these may snag the bow
- Tie your hair back if it is long
- If the day is a bit cold, bring clothes to keep you warm
Am I fit to take up archery?
As with any sports there are inherent risks, the equipment is aimed at beginners with lower strength limbs. However, it is a physical activity and most of the day will be spent standing. We cannot advise on any heath conditions and if you have concerns you should take expert medical advice from your GP prior to booking.
We will endeavour to run the course but if the weather forecast is bad, we shall postpone the event and make arrangements for another day as soon as possible.
We will email you on the day if the course is not going ahead due to the weather, so check your emails before setting off. If you don’t hear from us, assume it’s on and we’ll see you there.
We will use the email address you provided for the booking to contact you, should we need to please ensure it is accurate (you will receive a confirmation email, contact us if you don’t). If you are booking on behalf of others, you will be responsible for passing on any correspondence and passing on the information stated here. It is important people come prepared.
Please read the booking terms and conditions carefully and you will be asked to sign a disclaimer form prior to the start of the course, parents/guardian of under 16s will be required to sign on their behalf.
Covid-19 - At time of writing, beginners courses are permissible but the last year has shown that things can change at short notice. We are assuming that the event will go ahead but will be guided by Government instruction, any guidance from ArcheryGB or the venue owners in place at the time of the course and if necessary, adapt the course to meet that guidance. In addition to the standard terms and conditions, should Blue Arrows be required to cancel due to Corvid-19 restrictions, we will offer an alternative date later this year or a full refund. By booking, you are agreeing to abide by the any Covid-19 requirements in place at the time of the event.
