Beginners Course Sunday 26th June 2022

Our aim is to give people an intensive course so that you can start archery a lot quicker and become a club member sooner, if you so wish. On successful completion of the course you will be provide with a certificate to be able to join Blue Arrows immediately or take as evidence of basic course completion to other clubs. Details of Blue Arrows membership will become available at the breaks whilst on the course.

If you want to use the day as a taster or something different to try, then that is fine also. There is certainly no obligation to continue archery after the day if you felt it wasn't for you.

The cost of the day is £35 per person, no concessions or group discounts.

The use of all equipment and the necessary training is included.

You must be at least 7 years old to take part but no upper limit! Juniors under 13 will require parent/guardian supervision throughout the day. Parents/guardians will be required to sign the disclaimer for all those under 16.

Timetable

The courses and will start at 10.00am sharp.

The first session will last for 2 hours until 12 noon.

We then have a break and plan to resume at 1pm for 2.5hours, until approximately 3.30pm, where you will have received all the necessary training and coaching to start archery as a hobby.

All timings are approximate and we may tailor the day depending on conditions and attendees abilities.

Although it may seem like a long day, you will learn a lot. You will find the day will go quite quickly and I am sure you will find it very enjoyable.

At the end of the course you will have the opportunity to progress into archery through joining the club as a member immediately.

All details regarding this will be given at the end of the day.

There is limited shelter at the venue for either good or not so good weather! Feel free to bring along chairs/picnic blankets lunchtime or spectators.

Lunch

Lunch is NOT provided. You will need to bring your own lunch and drinks there aren’t any shops within walking distance. You will have time to drive out but advisable to come prepared.

What to wear

It is important that you dress appropriately using the following as a guideline:

  • No open toed shoes/sandals are permitted for archery. Without closed toe shoes, you will not be able to shoot
  • It is a grass field so if it’s been raining on the lead up to the day, it is likely to be wet underfoot and possibly muddy. Please wear appropriate footwear
  • We would NOT recommend wearing loose fitting garments, these may snag the bow
  • Tie your hair back if it is long
  • If the day is a bit cold, bring clothes to keep you warm

Am I fit to take up archery?

As with any sports there are inherent risks, the equipment is aimed at beginners with lower strength limbs. However, it is a physical activity and most of the day will be spent standing. We cannot advise on any heath conditions and if you have concerns you should take expert medical advice from your GP prior to booking.

Weather

We will endeavour to run the course but if the weather forecast is bad, we shall postpone the event and make arrangements for another day as soon as possible.

We will email you on the day if the course is not going ahead due to the weather, so check your emails before setting off. If you don’t hear from us, assume it’s on and we’ll see you there.
